Chair, Vice President Edith Auslander, a native Tucsonan, has served as vice president and senior associate to the president since Sept. 1, 2003. Prior to this appointment, she was the director of development for the UA Alumni Association from January 2000 through the end of August 2003. She has been involved with The University of Arizona for most of her career. From 1973-1981, Ms. Auslander, who received her master's degree in journalism in 1975, worked at the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson where she was a features writer, a general assignment reporter, an education reporter, and an editor for two features sections. Before joining the Star, she was the managing editor of Arizona Catholic Lifetime for 16 years. Between 1977 and 1984 she worked as a faculty member in the UA journalism department. She left the faculty in 1984 when she was appointed to the Arizona Board of Regents. In particular, she proved to be a firm and constant voice for the interests of women, students and minorities. Ms. Auslander was the president of the UA Hispanic Alumni Club for three years, during which the club's endowment fund grew from $250,000 to more than $1 million. She also is active in a number of community organizations including the Hispanic Professional Action Committee (past president two terms) and Concerned Media Professionals (founding member and president for two terms). She was one of 15 founders of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She has been listed in Hispanic Business magazine as one of 100 influential U.S. Hispanics and in Replica Magazine as one of 25 Hispanic Women of the Year. Education
